Making Progress, Advancing Healthcare Outcomes in an Era of AI
Health IT and artificial intelligence (AI) are central to the Administration’s vision to Make America Healthy Again—driving prevention, improving health outcomes while reducing cost, and doing “more with less.”
The federal government continues to advance priorities that improve patient services while driving down costs as we enter the artificial intelligence era where AI, data and information are transforming healthcare, big data and human capabilities. Agencies are facing a pressing need to modernize IT systems, increase efficiencies by incorporating automation and AI, and increase cybersecurity. Without consolidated shared IT services, agencies will struggle to maintain infrastructure, secure their systems and modernize for the AI era.
AI will continue to advance healthcare through AI-powered diagnostics integrated into wearable devices, and electronic health records (EHR) for risk tracking, that alert providers to potential health issues. Technology is the driving force that helps shift the healthcare focus from reactive treatment to proactive wellness. Building on this momentum, telehealth has become an essential tool for improving access to healthcare, especially for underserved and rural communities.
Meanwhile, interoperability is becoming increasingly important in the digital health landscape, serving as the foundation for seamless data exchange. It facilitates connected care and improves operational efficiency by securely linking systems such as EHRs, devices, and applications through standards. The aim is to generate comprehensive patient views, minimize errors, and improve health outcomes.
Robust cybersecurity measures and advanced data privacy protections are needed to safeguard operations against an evolving landscape of cyber threats. Healthcare challenges are intensifying, affecting every aspect of care delivery. Cybersecurity is more than just a compliance requirement or IT issue; it’s crucial to patient care and safety.
We should look for progress and outcomes in AI, interoperability, cybersecurity and big data analytics, alongside demonstrable improvements in operational efficiency and patient outcomes.
Join us at the 2026 Health IT Summit as we continue to chart the course toward a healthier, more connected future. Together, we will ensure that the next generation of healthcare is not only technologically advanced but more accessible and equitable for every American.
