Karen Austin is the CEO of American Publishing, which has produced the United States Cybersecurity Magazine since 2013. The publication offers solutions-based content about the most pressing cybersecurity issues faced by the nation. American Publishing also produces the Armed Forces Directory for Aberdeen Proving Ground and Fort Meade.
With more than 30 years of business, sales and publishing experience, Karen began her career in physical security as a first responder focused on safety equipment. During 9/11, she was a Counterterrorism Security Equipment Specialist for a government contractor serving the U.S. and its territories. She worked tirelessly for Ground Zero supplying equipment for command posts, working day and night with senior leaders to set up communications hardware to remediate the attack. Following her tour of duty in New York, she was assigned to visit high risk areas in U.S. territories susceptible to terrorist attacks including Guam, Saipan, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and American Samoa. She deployed equipment and trained first responders to use it. This work culminated in the very first “To-Go Kit” for terror attacks. Ms. Austin serves as an advisor on various boards focused on business and women’s issues.
